A Little Dirt Doesn't Hurt

We decided to step up our game with our gardening this year. We were lucky enough to come away with a few tomatoes last year after our poor attempt at keeping the one stalk alive. The few tomatoes, however, gave us a little courage to go a little bigger this year. Bigger as in, garden box, bigger.

Last year, we were a little late in getting our hands in the dirt. This year, we were bound to do a better job with the timeline. We had our garden box together weeks before we even planted our humble garden. The garden box was surprisingly easy to put together. Jeremy even trusted me with the drill!

I only included this pic because it cracks me up

Mid-April rolled around and we finally got our vegetable plants in the ground. We filled our box with soil, planting our Heirloom and Roma tomatoes, green and red bell peppers, cucumbers, squash and zucchini. We also put some watermelon seeds in the back row but sadly, nothing has come up. We're a little nervous about that one.

We've enjoyed watching our garden grow over the weeks. We've got a ton of Roma tomatoes on the vine waiting for them to ripen. Our bell pepper buds are small and delicate but we've got to be patient while they grow into their shape. The cucumber has taken over the garden latching onto our poor red peppers and growing all over the place. The zucchini and cucumber have a ton of blooms. We're just waiting for the squash to catch up.

We hope to have plenty of vegetables in the next month! If you're nice, maybe we'll share :)

A Mother's Love

A few weeks ago we spent the weekend celebrating our beautiful mothers. Jeremy and I are very lucky to have both moms live close by so we were able to spoil them with special gifts they deserve every day of the year.

The morning was spent with the Little family brunching it up and doing a little gardening. We spoiled Momma L with tickets to Dirty Dancing on Broadway coming to Charlotte mid-June. Dirty Dancing is one of her FAVORITE movies and we can't wait to see what the broadway will bring. No doubt about it, she loved it!

After playing in the dirt, we headed over to the Singleton's for an early dinner. We showered Momma S with gifts, one in particular, really special. Jeremy and Reuben filled a book of 50 reasons why they love their Mom. It was so sweet and something she will cherish forever.

Speaking of mommas, my dear friend Elyse is about to become one! At the beginning of the month I got to surprise her at her baby shower being thrown at work. It was a little surreal being back in Salisbury but it was SO worth it to see her reaction to me popping up in the room. There was no way I was missing her shower at work. It only seemed fitting since that was where we met and formed our friendship. It was so great seeing her and other friends I miss seeing on a daily basis!

To all the mamma's out there, you should be celebrated every day! Hopefully I'll be able to join your little club one day soon.

Twenty-Nine

I started this post a few weeks ago. I got as far as the title. Twenty-nine. I've been lulling this post, not really sure what words to fill it with. I think it's because I'm at a time in my life where I'm itching to do big things; start a family, find a permanent job (MetLife is unfortunately a contract job and will end next year) and complete house projects. I'm at a point where I need to be patient and wait for God's timing. Being patient is hard....especially when I'm pretty much a patient person to begin with...so it's really hard. But I trust Him and his outlook on Jeremy and I's life.

So getting back to the big day. It was awesome! Not gonna lie, I was a little sad not to spend it with my Food Lion friends. They have topped my birthday over the past 5 years and I was a little nervous it wouldn't be the same at MetLife. Turns out I was wrong. My MetLife friends surprised me with chocolate covered strawberries, cannolis, donuts and chocolate cupcakes. They know I have quite the sweet tooth. What topped the cake was a surprise flower delivery from Elyse! The delivery guy came by my desk wanting me to sign for the delivery and I seriously thought it was a mistake. (I never get deliveries....obviously). Elyse was too sweet to do this, expressing she was sad she couldn't be there to decorate my desk like she has done in the past. It seriously made my day!

I also got to celebrate with my birthday twin, Chelsea. We enjoyed a double date at Nakato chatting it up about all things Marvel, work, etc.

Jeremy spoiled me all month long. He surprised me with little gifts he left for me to find. I'm kind of obsessed with popcorn from World Market. He got me some for each week. Oh! And he also got me the best shirt ever! You should all know I am obsessed with Mindy Kaling by now. This shirt is beyond perfect.

He also took me to dinner at an intimate restaurant in downtown Waxhaw. We dined at Heritage Food & Drink, where we chose from a farm-to-table menu that changes daily. We accidentally ended up eating a 3 course meal but everything was so good, we simply couldn't stop eating! We will definitely be back. Especially when they have Tempura Rapini on the menu.

It was a great birthday. I'm excited and nervous to see what twenty-nine brings. It's time to enjoy this moment in my life while I'm waiting for the big things to come. Twenty-nine, let's do this.
