Last June, we left our hearts in San Francisco dreaming to go back to California in the future. I never imagined the future would come so soon when Jeremy surprised me on Valentine's Day with an early 30th birthday gift of whale watching in San Diego; a bucket list item I've been dreaming to do since I fell in love with the movie Free Willy years ago. He purchased the tickets with the thoughts of going during peak whale watching season. We barely made it in there but we booked a quick 4-day trip on the very last week of the season. I knew our chances of seeing whales were low BUT I was just as excited to tour the town that Jason Mraz, my favorite musician/singer/songwriter, was discovered in.
After a long evening flight from Charlotte, we were happy to stretch our legs and smell that Pacific Ocean air. Our hotel was conveniently along the Harbor which was exciting to see but at 10pm and still on east coast time, all we wanted was food and bed. We settled for the best of both worlds, dinner in bed!
Our first full day was spent getting to know the city. We hopped on a trolley and explored the Harbor, Seaport Village, the Gaslamp District, Coronado, Balboa Park, Little Italy, and Old Town. We happily ate our way around as we learned about the city rich with Navy history we soon fell in love with.
